On 17 September, the presentation event for the Sociodemographic Data Viewer will take place. This tool has been developed by the Bizkaia Longevity and Care Observatory, an initiative of the Bizkaia Provincial Council under the Directorate-General for Longevity and the Demographic Challenge of the Department of Social Action.

What is the Sociodemographic Data Viewer?

The Viewer is the public-facing version of the Longevity and Care Observatory’s indicator dashboard: : a system that collects, systematises and regularly updates key demographic and social indicators, providing a comprehensive overview of the situation of people aged 50 and over in Bizkaia.

Its purpose is to monitor changes in the population’s needs, identify trends and support the design, planning and evaluation of public policies relating to longevity, living conditions and care in Bizkaia.

The Viewer draws on two types of sources The first is the Observatory’s own baseline sociological study on the social needs of people aged 50 and over in Bizkaia. The second comprises a wide range of secondary statistical sources covering sociodemographic factors, employment, income, consumption, digital skills and health, sourced from Eustat and the Basque Government, as well as the Bizkaia Provincial Council’s register of people with officially recognised dependency status.

Presentation session

During the event, the context and origins of the Viewer will be explained, its dimensions and features will be explored and, lastly, an explanation will be given of how it will be kept continuously up to date.
