On 30 June, the launch event for the Bizkaia Observatory on Longevity and Care will take place. This initiative, promoted by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, aims to understand the region’s demographic trends, anticipate trends associated with longevity and contribute to the improvement of public policies in this field.

The Observatory has been established against a backdrop of significant demographic changes. In Bizkaia, life expectancy stands at 84.4 years, one in four people is over 65, and the population aged over 80 has doubled since 2000. In light of this reality, the Observatory is designed as a framework for the generation and transfer of knowledge, enabling the analysis of demographic and care dynamics, the identification of emerging needs, and the provision of evidence to inform public decision-making.

Attached to the Directorate-General for Longevity and the Demographic Challenge within the Department of Social Action of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Observatory will focus its work on five main areas: monitoring indicators, analysis, foresight, evaluation and knowledge transfer. Its work will help to anticipate future scenarios, evaluate policies and resources, and foster social and professional debate on longevity and care.

The event will begin with an institutional opening ceremony. The full programme for the day will be announced shortly.
