Project description

Bizkaia is undergoing a process of transforming the territory’s forests through different initiatives that pursue the same goal: to increase the forest area occupied by native woodland in order to achieve a balance between the conservation of these natural spaces and the sustainable development of economic activity in the forestry sector.

The Bizkaia Provincial Council will receive support from the European Regional Development Fund to develop initiatives in the field of nature conservation and restoration under Specific Objective 2.7. Strengthen the protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure in urban areas and reduce all forms of pollution.

Specifically, initiatives will be carried out to reforest the hillsides of the territory of Bizkaia with native species such as ash, cherry, blackthorn, birch, chestnut, beech and hawthorn trees, and predominately oak species.

• Investment of 8.7 million euros
• Co-financing by the European Regional Development Fund of 3.5 million euros
