Ageism is reflected not only in individual attitudes, but also in the norms, policies and practices that shape public action. According to the WHO, institutional ageism occurs when these limit people’s opportunities on the basis of their age.

This participatory workshop, held as part of the World Congress of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, addresses how to identify, evaluate and transform ageism in public policy at local and regional levels.

Based on international evidence and real-life experiences, a practical methodology will be used to detect ageist biases, engage older people in policy evaluation and translate these findings into public decisions and action plans.
