Prevention and extinction of forest fires

Basque Country EGEF Programme 2021-2027

Project description

The Bizkaia Provincial Council will receive support from the European Regional Development Fund to develop forest fire prevention measures to adapt to risks arising from climate change under Specific Objective 2.4. Promote climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention and resilience, taking into account ecosystem-based approaches.

The initiatives proposed by the Provincial Council focus on forest fire prevention and sustainable forest management. These initiatives are part of the new forest fire emergency plan (INFOBI), which seeks to adapt to the new scenarios created by climate change, as the forecast effects of global warming arising from this phenomenon, such as persistent droughts, heat waves and bouts of intense winds, make the behaviour of forest fires more extreme.

Budgets

  • Investment of 11.5 million euros
  • Co-financing by the European Regional Development Fund of 4.6 million euros
