Enclosed area woven like a basket

Outline of limited space Parallel and perpendicular lines on trunks

Alongside oak, holly and ash, chestnut trees are gradually winning back the land that pine trees stole from them. This figure, whose expressive strength lies in the simplicity of its square shapes, reminds us that chestnut wood has traditionally been used to weave the baskets used in Basque farmhouses. Ibarrola wove this basket with orange and violet lines, using five of the forest’s totems as stays.
