The Plenary session of the Bizkaia Council of Older People meeting in person again
Social Action
The participatory body of the province’s older people has once again met in person at the Bilbao Euskalduna Conference Centre after the end of the state of alarm. It held its meetings virtually during lockdown. Over 60 professionals and older people are involved in the Council’s dynamics to drive and improve ageing policies in the province.
The Plenary session of the Bizkaia Council of Older People
The Council of Older People has this morning held a further ordinary meeting of the plenary session. This meeting, at the Bilbao Euskalduna Conference Centre, was the return to holding them in person again. The work meetings were held virtually during the lockdown, caused by the Covid-19 health crisis.
The Council was chaired by Manuel Merino, who was accompanied - as far as the associations of older people were concerned - by representatives of Nagusiak, Hartu Emanak, Secot and Nagusilan. The Provincial Council was represented by the Provincial Councillor for Social Action, Sergio Murillo, along with the management team of the Social Action Department.
Towards a Plan to Promote Personal Autonomy and Caring for Older People
The members of the Council’s plenary session analysed the report resulting from the cycle of 5 open meetings held in the World Café format at the end of February. The members of the Council of Older People’s committees provided input at the meetings. In those dynamics, the experiences, opinions and proposals were gathered of 261 of people of different generations who voluntarily took part in the sessions held in Basauri, Barakaldo, Bilbao, Getxo and Durango.
The resulting report, which was analysed today, will be part of the documents to underpin the future Plan to Promote Personal Autonomy and Caring for Older People that Bizkaia Provincial Council is fostering.
Today’s meeting was also the opportunity to lay the foundations for the work of this representation and participatory body during the second half of the year. The collegiate Council plays an advisory, consultative and proactive role, answers to Bizkaia Provincial Council’s Department of Social Action, and involves over 60 professionals and older people of the province, committed to driving its policies on ageing.
